CDRE Negus, I happened across this blog just now. I was one of the Johns Hopkins students hoping unsuccessfully to be one of the selections sent to the Suriname portion of Continuing Promise, and I was curious how the trip was going. Your posts have painted a wonderfully colorful picture of the journey and I thank you for posting them. As an old Naval Academy grad ('76) I was looking forward to stepping on board a Navy ship again, but now I understand that it would have been a rather short visit. Best of luck to you and the crew and of course to the people of Haiti. To follow up an earthquake and potential cholera epidemic with a hurricane just seems more than any population should bear.

Hello CDRE Negus,

I enjoyed your blog very much. You have caputured the essence of the Med Sites well especialy Rosehall. I managed to get out there oin Wednesday but have not been able to return since. I would love to share with you some of the video captured that day. The optomotrist was infact very busy that day and I managed to get a few words from a villager you may like to here - "Long live America". I hope to get to Med Site 2 tomorrow (Sunday). I am creating a very nice documentary for each day out on site. Though I work for Project Hope, I have a great need to affiliate my work with the military and your efforts. I would like to speak with you about creating a piece for the closing ceremony in Gyana. Perhaps use your blog for that day and create a visiual interpretation in your own words with your own voice. I value this opportunity aboard the USS Iwo Jima and can't wait to share this with the world.

Please contact me when you have time. I will be floating around the ship.

Thank You,

Pasquale Iannino

Project Hope/Rockit Projects Creative Director

I am currently the Medical Director of Dr. Hafiz American Medical Laboratory in Rose Hall Town. I would be more than willing to volunteer in this Medical Outreach with your medical team at Rose Hall Town. Apart from my Medical Training.... of which I can provide the necessary documents, I am fluent in English, Spanish and the local dialect Creolize that the majority of the locals speak that can come in handy for the team.

I can be contacted at my email (mhafiz11@yahoo.com) or local phone number: 337-4261

This is the least I can do since this was the last school I attended before leaving for college in the USA, and most importantly the majority of my medical training came from Institutions in the USA.
